The Beurer EM38 Lower Back Support Belt & TENS Device provides targeted and comfortable muscle pain relief around your lumbar lordosis. It utilizes electrostimulation targeting the lower back. The ergonomic belt fastens at the waist and it includes an extension strap and batteries. The flexible belt fits a waist circumference of 30-55 inches (with the extension). This unit features an LCD display panel (a removable control unit) which indicates if the unit is turned on, visualizes the timer, and allows you to choose the intensity and program. You can easily increase or decrease the intensity with the buttons on the device. The EM38 has 4 channels and 20 adjustable intensity levels for you to choose from. The belt has 4 water contact electrodes, which eliminate the need (and additional costs) of replacement electrodes and contact gel, and it is completely reusable. What is TENS? Does what you bought it for, durable, extremely inexpensive compared to regular TENS unit
I’m giving it 5 stars because one of the 4 settings is amazing and so much better than the great tens unit I own. No more buying replacement pads. You just put it on and it’s perfect for entire lower back. Tip: nowhere does it tell you how to moisten the four contact points with water. I tried several ways and finally came up with a small spray bottle filled with water. Spray the device and your back, strap it on, and you’re good to go.Some issues I wish they’d fix:1. The LED display is small and not backlit. You’re best off counting rather that trying to see it when it’s on you. Fortunately, it remembers the message setting. The only one I think is any good is “C”. As long as you don’t touch the right side button, it comes up as “C” when you turn it on. Then you increase intensity with top left button.2. I have an average sized waist and it just barely fits. It has an extender that makes it way big. Better design would solve this.Surprises:1. Battery life is phenominal. I’m still using the original batteries and I’ve used it a lot.2. I wake up at night often with intense back pain. I find I can sleep with it on. When I wake up, it takes less than a minute to get it going. Makes it easy to get back to sleep.The money you save in not having to buy new tens unit pads, combined with ease of use, makes this a no brainer for those with lower back pain. It pays for itself quickly and seems very durable. I think it will work for years even with me using it almost daily.

Defective?
This is the worst owner’s manual I have ever seen. I imagine my product is defective, but there’s no way to tell. Poor troubleshooting, also. It doesn’t work with what few instructions they’ve given me. I suggest trying any other product.

Somewhat bulky but easy to use and well made unit.
Easily works by wetting the contact areas. Some choices of settings don’t feel like they go high enough for me and I am a lightweight pain-wise. The A setting can give you a jolt ½ way through when it jumps way up in intensity. Press the down button for 2 secs to lower it down. Not sure why they did that. Also odd that if you change the program before it runs the time out, it starts beeping and going up one level of intensity until the max or you stop it at your comfortable level. The main thing I wanted to mention is that this rig is fairly bulky. Your are not going to wear it out and about under your clothes! I thought about trying to strip it down but don’t want to risk it. If you want to wear a unit under your street clothes – look elsewhere, otherwise this works well for a sit down or lay down TENS unit. Well made and glad I don’t have to worry about accidentally pulling out a cable or wiring.

Affordable TENS product
I have been using TENS devices for about 4 years now and I have always been skeptical about the belts. This was only my second TENS belt and it wasn’t bad at all! I like how there was a wide range of intensities and so depending on how I’m feeling I could use that to my preference. It’s made from the same material as those weight loss belts and so it was pretty comfortable. I didn’t need any gel or anything so that was a nice change. I haven’t had a chance to use the programs, kind of did my own timing and intensities. So far so good. The electric device also detaches so you can wash the belt separately. It gave me the same relief as some of my $100+ products, which was surprising. Will update this review as I continue to use it!!I’ve purchased the Roscoe Relief System before and it wasn’t bad, however, I like how this product came ready to use out of the box, only needed to insert batteries. Very simple and portable.It came with some adhesive that I didn’t know what to do with, but all else I really liked the product. It was pretty self explanatory. It also fits my dad with the expanded belt it comes with which is a huge plus!

Not what I expected
I’ve never had a TENS unit before so not sure what exactly I’m supposed to feel. I’ve played around with the different programs and different intensities. On program A, I felt nothing until I changed the intensity to about a level 15 and even then I felt little tapping but not much of anything. However, if I lean forward like when I’m sitting in a chair, I do feel the vibrations much better but the minute I sit up or stand up, nothing. Once this thing hits 19 minutes left on the timer, I need to turn the intensity down to about an 8 cause the next 10 minutes in this program is definitely felt!! It’s a very strong pulsing so I’d say I’m feeling what I’m supposed to. Once the timer hits 10 minutes left, again nothing and I have to increase intensity to about 15 and even then unless I’m leaning forward I don’t feel anything. It’s like the electrodes don’t make contact when I’m standing or sitting. I haven’t tried laying on my back but that may be the best way to use this. Program B and D, same thing. I feel nothing unless I increase the intensity to about a 15 and same thing. I have to stand and bend over or sit and bend over to feel anything. Program C is the only program that works for me. It is the same bursts of pulses just like the bursts in program A in the second 10 minutes of the program. I was hoping this would be something I could wear under my clothes but that’s not the case so I can only use it at home. With all said, even if I have to only use the C program it definitely helps with lower back pain.

The product suddenly stopped working after a few uses for no reason. I only lightly used it a couple of times but then it stopped working when I tried to use it again. The screen is working but other than that it is not functioning anymore. Wanted to request to return the item but was so busy when I finally got the time, the app says that I missed the return closing time. I think those devices should be under an extended warranty period to assure that it is functional and doesnt stop working for no reason after a few uses.

Sadly stopped working after a couple weeks so I had to return it. This brand seems wellknown for these machines so maybe I just got a faulty product. Might try again with this brand in the future :)I will note that the electricity immediately turns off if not fully in contact with skin, so that makes it hard to adjust on your back or use on different parts of the body compared to other tens belts.
